What the rankings tell you Each rank orders one published result, from highest to lowest, among covered districts of the same type. It is our ordering of CDE data, not an official CDE ranking or an overall school rating. Equal values share a rank; the next position skips accordingly. Filtering by city or name keeps the original peer-group rank.
Achievement and progress answer different questions English and math achievement show average points above or below California’s test standard for 2024–25. These are not percentages. CDE participation adjustments can affect both the result and reported denominator, so the count is not necessarily the number of tested students.
Student growth measures progress relative to students with similar prior scores in grades 4–8. The 2025 release combines multiple assessment years. We retain CDE’s growth score and category; high-school districts have no applicable growth result.
A district average is a starting point Elementary, high-school and unified districts cover different grades, so they have separate rankings. Schools and programs within one district can differ. These aggregate results do not isolate a school’s contribution or predict a home’s future value.
No demographic characteristics, home prices or private ratings enter the ranking. Missing, suppressed or incompatible results remain unranked. There is no blended score or letter grade.
Use this in your home search Follow a city link to inspect its school map and individual school results. A district’s boundary intersecting a city—including water or open space—does not establish that it serves a particular home. Confirm the exact address, grade, program and intended school year with the district before relying on an assignment.
